Traffic flow, speed, and density characteristics at the macroscopic and microscopic levels.  Analytical approaches to supply-demand modeling, level-of-service, capacity, shockwave and queuing analyses. Basic traffic stream models, car- following theory, and computer simulation.

 

CE 965 Traffic Control Systems, Fall 2002

Principles of traffic control.  Design and analysis of intersection, arterial street, network, and freeway control systems. Actuated control concepts and basic detector design alternatives. Evaluation of detector designs in terms of safety and efficiency of traffic operation.  Impact of freeway incident on traffic flow, input-output analysis of freeway congestion, and optimum utilization of freeway and ramp metering.
